I know of someone that does prison tatooos by melting ballpoint pens onto skin. He’s actually really good at it, it’s a shame he puts dicks in everything he does. More »

Being a parent of a small child, I have to say she’s missing the mark in her harsh assessment of what “games” can bring to her son. My daughter who is 2 1/2 years old has a leapster hand held. Even though its above her age category she’s gotten the hang of it and plays most of the games. I’m sure it has everything to do with the way its presented. I doubt anyone could get a 2.5 year old to sit still and learn what she’s learned through straight teaching. Because she plays while she learns she picks it up. I work in the industry doing some of the most technical work a person can find. I challange her to attempt it if she thinks we’re all morons. I make games that encourage girls to think. She needs to have a talk with our President (#5 on the list of most influential women in games) if this mom thinks games rot your brain. If it wasn’t for my tech loving father, making “games” on our Tandy that helped me with math, I would have probably not taken an interest in science and computers. I would probably be working some slack jaw job in a factory just waiting for the day when I grab my chest and double over for the last time…

Games being hard is SRS BSNSS! – Da Vinci wasn’t Q to Ezio’s James Bond. Get out of here, Assassin’s Creed II! – Brutal Legend has RTS. YOU LIED TO ME, SCHAFER! – Scribblenauts. No way would a pirate beat a ninja! – Tales of Monkey Island. Guybrush is too pale, goatee, looks like a junkie etc. – BAYONETTA’S HEAD IS TOO SMALL AND HER LEGS ARE VERY LONG!!!

+ Evony Ads Go From Bad To Worse To Awesome [PC] By 18 November 2009 at 1:00 am and have No Comments

You live on the internet, so we know you’ve seen them: ads for Evony, pathetic attempts at enticing people to play an online game run by shady types by using boobs. Least, they were pathetic. Now, they’re hilarious.

I rock Adblocker, so I actually haven’t seen these in a while. Which is a pity. If ever an ad was going to make me reach for the “disable” button, it would be these more recent Evony ones, what began as an attempt to cash in on Lord of the Rings having obviously become a rush to secure the services of girls appearing on porn movie box art from the 1990′s.

And no, I didn’t make that last bit up.

LazyGamer have posted a great gallery (recently updated to encapsulate the game’s recent offerings) charting the “turn” of Evony’s ads, from their humble beginnings in the Tower of Gondor to the boobs smorgasbord they offer today. Sad/fun reading awaits.

+ For The Discerning Art Collector/Halo Fan [Halo] By 18 November 2009 at 12:00 am and have No Comments

Perhaps in an effort to appeal to a more up-market clientèle than Halo merchandise currently allows, Microsoft have commissioned a series of framed prints depicting art from Halo 3: ODST.

These aren’t the kind of things you’d get as a pre-order gift thrown in a cheap plastic frame. No, these are the kind of things that are limited to 100 of each, and will cost you $175.

There are three different prints, and each measures 13×19 inches.

+ Mommy, Where Do Video Game Toys Come From? [Toys] By 17 November 2009 at 11:00 pm and have No Comments

There are a lot of video game toys out there. We should know. But did you ever stop to wonder, amidst all the yearning and admiration for a hunk of painted vinyl, just where it came from?

Toy importer Pop Culture Shock do, as they’ve published a gallery on Capcom’s site showing the factory in China where SOTA’s Capcom statues are put together and finished off.

Most of the shots depict SOTA’s Zangief piece being assembled then painted, but you’ll also see Sagat and Darkstalker’s Felicia pop up as well.

Makes you wonder why they don’t advertise “individually hand-painted” on the box.

+ Square Enix Promise To Be More Timely With Future Western Releases [Imperial Hot] By 17 November 2009 at 10:00 pm and have No Comments

Square Enix are known for two things: Final Fantasy, and massive delays for games released in the West. The former isn’t going to be changing anytime soon, but the latter just might be!

In an interview with Ars Technica, Square boss Yoichi “Imperial Hot” Wada has said that in the future, post-FFXIII world, Square games will be much more timely when making the jump from Japan to the West.

“For the last three years, we have worked very hard to close the gap between Japanese release timing and North American and European release timing,” he said. “We tried to go for the global, simultaneous release [of FFXIII] but that was something that was inconceivable, in a sense. But we have been able to close that release window gap to three months. For us, it was a very big step forward.”

So big that Wada says future Square Enix games will be held back until all versions are ready, unlike the company’s current plan which is “launch in Japan first, everyone else later”.
